About this book

Edith’s tenure as the new dragon keeper in the hidden valley of Ormdale proves far more perilous than simple creature husbandry. While the impending mating season brings the expected hazards of venomous bites and unruly wyverns, the true threats to her sanctuary are human in origin. When a shadowy poacher begins stalking the outbuildings of her ancient estate, Edith must look beyond the dragons to protect her charges.

Her investigation pulls her into a web of local intrigue, forcing her to confront a buried family scandal hidden within the walls of the Abbey. As she navigates these mounting dangers, she finds herself increasingly distracted by an inconveniently appealing suitor living just next door. Seeking guidance, Edith turns to the enigmatic Helena Drake, the mistress of Drake Hall.

Yet, as she draws closer to her mentor, Edith begins to question if Helena is a true ally or merely another keeper of dangerous secrets. Set against a backdrop of cozy gothic Yorkshire, the valley demands more than just a firm hand with beasts; it requires Edith to master the volatile politics of the families sworn to guard them. In Ormdale, the dragons are the least of the mysteries waiting to be unraveled.

Charming Victorian fantasy with dragons!

"Cozy fantasy is the perfect description for this charming Victorian dragon story, interlaced with deep themes of family, friendship, and the true meaning of love and sacrifice. I found the plot a little less exciting than book one, as this story seems to serve mostly as a bridge between books 1 and 3. That being said, the characters are all very realistic, complex, and worth rooting for. Baehr has a knack for portraying the depth and nuance of flawed families and relationships in a way that still points to hope. The romance, though not a main focus of the story, is wholesome, well-paced, and healthy. Simon is supportive and protective, and I love Edith's commitment to seeing him choose his future for himself and put his talents to good use. The lore in this series is particularly enjoyable and Drake Hall only expanded on it more. I really enjoy the blending of Welsh, British, and even Spanish legends to create the mysterious and arcane history of Ormdale. ["

Enchanting and engrossing!

"Christina Baehr's second installment in The Secrets of Ormdale Series is a delightful page-turner! "Drake Hall" is fanciful and fascinating. Enchanting and engrossing. Charming and captivating. I could wax poetical with alliterations for days on end, so much have I enjoyed this story! My bookish heart is giddy to the point of GUSHING, dearies! After reading several beautiful, but rather somber novels, this is just the sort of tale I needed to get lost in! Something imaginative! Something humorous!! Something fun!!! Have I used enough exclamation marks to suitably convey how FUN this story is yet!?!?! Fans of Victorian history, fairy tales, and legends of yore will love exploring Baehr's whimsical world. If you've ever wished there had been dragons frolicking about "The Secret Garden," you simply must pay a visit to "Drake Hall"! 📚 The Secrets of Ormdale Series 📖 "Wormwood Abbey" (Book 1) 📖 "Drake Hall" (Book 2) ["

Lovely Series

"Edith Worms has settled in at Wormwood Abbey and has become a frequent visitor at Drake Hall while getting to know Helena Drake, Simon’s invalid mother. Edith finds out more about the dragons in the area, confronts a hired thief, and finds out about the oldest and largest dragon in the area. Then she receives an invitation to visit a mysterious place to meet the Red Dragon. Hoping to find out more about other Dragon Wardens, Edith makes plans to travel there, which will continue in the next story. I enjoyed this second book in the series, learning more about the history of the Worms and their dragon keeping, and watching Edith become more comfortable in her role there. I’m off to read about her adventure in Wales now. ["
