"“It is my greatest fear that women will forever pay for the fear of men” The continuation of Jessamine and Elric’s story was a fantastic journey. The most growth here happens with Jessamine. She’s still hurt over Callum’s betrayal, still a naive youth in many ways. We got a taste of feminine rage in book 1. Book 2 gave us a heartier dose. I think book 3 will be cataclysmic. “There is a goddess in all of us, and she cries out to be seen.” Jessamine is no goddess in this book. She’s still a limping wraith licking her wounds - but the more she learns the angrier she gets. In this book she learned how deep the betrayal ran and we finally learn the pivotal plot point that we’ll be chasing in the final third book. Jessamine destroys the one thing the antagonist of each book hold dear to them. With Callum it was ego. With this book, I won’t spoil anything but it was very fitting for what was importantly to them. I cannot wait to see what she does with Leon. “They would dig into him with sharp knives… and he would let them. He always let them.” And our darling Elric. I think book 3 will hold a lot of growth for him too. The end of this book ends on an ominous note for him. I predict a lot of wrath from a certain little nightmare and I am here for it. ["

Loved this, but still felt like I wanted more from it

"I didn’t love this one as much as I did The Deathless One (Book 1); however, I still really liked it. Jessamine and Elric have such good chemistry, and I adore their relationship. And honestly, a god on his knees for a woman is just… so good lol. But he’s also trying to learn how to be a person again, and kind of reckoning with what the gods represent and how he wants to be now for himself and for his gravesinger. I just loved them so much. I do wish we had more insight into their thoughts and inner monologues sometimes, though. A lot of the plot happens quickly and efficiently, I guess, and it didn’t leave that much room for how the characters themselves were figuring things out or how they were feeling. We get a basic sense of their thoughts, but I was craving something a little deeper overall, I think. Another thing I really appreciated about this one was a clearer perception of the gods and who they were. I felt like I was left a little wanting in Book 1 with who The Deathless One really was, as well as his family, but that was cleared up pretty well in this book, and I feel like I have a better understanding of this world as a whole now. I also really loved the plot expansion in this one. I’m really excited to see how they tackle their next obstacle in Book 3 and what the growth of their coven is going to look like going forward. There’s a lot of what-ifs, and the way this ended left me with some anxiety about the fate of The Deathless One and his Gravesinger. ""Call yourself that you wish, gravesinger. Just know the only thing you have to call yourself is mine." This was such a fantastic book in this series, the books keep getting better and better. The Heartless One starts up shortly after the ending events of the last book. Elric has a physical body now, Jessamine is growing in power, and their coven is starting to expand. The pacing starts fast, and keeps going and doesn't stop until the end. We get to see more world building in this book, and I really loved getting to see more areas of the Kingdom and we learned more about the other gods. It was fascinating to hear about them from people who have/had worshiped them, but also got to hear Elric's first hand account of them. Watching them each come into power, work on overcoming their fears, and growing their coven had me cheering. I know it is probably still an uphill battle, and with the revelation at the end of the book, I know it's going to be a tough one. If you thought the chemistry between Elric and Jessamie was cranking up the heat in the last book, hold on to your horses for this one. There is just something about a god on his knees and worshiping the woman that he loves that just does something for me. I can't wait to get my hands on the last book in this series, I just KNOW Elric is going to go absolutely crazy for the woman he loves, and I can't wait to see it and cheer him on. ["

"This was better than book 1 but still leaves lots to be desired. I can’t quite put my finger on what this is missing…maybe the similar to book 1. I will read book 3 so I can complete the series but this still doesn’t hit for me as much as I wanted. ["
