About this book

Exiled from the sanctuary of Elysia, Sylvia navigates a dangerous, unfamiliar world while journeying toward Aelthorin. Accompanied by the enigmatic hunters Jon and Cliff, she carries the weight of a promise to reunite with her family, yet her focus shifts as her connection to Jon deepens into a forbidden, all-consuming bond. Jon, desperate to secure a future for them, gambles on a powerful gemstone that promises the impossible, even as he fights to suppress the feelings threatening to derail their mission.

Their path takes a chilling detour in a remote bayou town, where a sinister mystery unfolds. When Jon and Cliff’s past catches up to them in the form of former comrades, they discover a dark trade in monster remains that ensnares them in a lethal conspiracy. As they align with a volatile partnership of sirens and fairies, the line between ally and enemy blurs.

Plagued by hunters from their own history and the encroaching darkness of the swamp, Sylvia and Jon must decide how much of their souls they are willing to sacrifice. In a world where destiny is a death sentence, they must choose between the safety of duty and the devastating cost of a love that defies the shadows.

Even better than the first one 🧚‍♀️

"As delightfully fun as the first book, with more (mis)adventures and more supernatural creatures. We also get to meet some other hunters...for better and for worse. 👀 Sylvia and Jon are both still struggling with the fact that their relationship is doomed, and whether they should get their hopes up about defying their fate or protect their hearts and accept that they're not meant to be. It's sweet and angst-ridden, especially since we get both of their perspectives as they navigate their feelings. Even though Cliff isn't a romantic lead (yet), I think he's shaping up to be my favorite. He's witty, sarcastic, and sincere. I'm excited to see where the rest of this series goes. ✨️ ["

A lot of quotable moments (in a good way)

"This book was a lot of fun still but I did enjoy book 1 more. I really enjoyed the first half of the story more than the later moments, especially the hunt against the vampires. ["

Action packed book 2

"Thank you to Tantor Audio for entrusting me with a copy! Hunted in the Shadows by Mary Dublin and Anne Kendsley Shot in the Dark book 2 (planned 6) Dual narration by Isabelle Ruther and Oscar Reyes I continued to enjoy Isabelle and Oscar's narration for this story! I enjoy both of their voices and the emotion they brought to the characters and story! Audio note: My brain needs faster speeds for audio and this narration/recording sounded great at higher speeds. Urban fantasy Dual POV, forbidden feelings, impossible romance, magical connection, banter, quest for powerful crystals, monsters, fairy x monster hunter, small but mighty, elemental magic, increase in spice level This book picks up a bit after the last with our trio slowly working their way to Sylvia's destination while slaying monsters. But as they get closer, she is struggling with wanting to stay with Jon and Cliff instead of going back to live with her people. When they try to stop for supplies, bad things abound and honestly just sort of keep happening from there! Our trio continues to crack me up with their banter and with Sylvia learning the world. Lots of bad decisions continue! I did enjoy the figure from the past that ended up increasing the banter (and threats haha). We learned some more, but there is still a lot to be revealed in allll the story threads. Jon and Sylvia continue to ignore their better judgment and let their feelings keep growing. They have learned a lil trick that allows for the increase in spice level for now, but the quest is still on to find a way where they may be able to stay together. With a planned 4 more books, I'm wondering where the story will go next! ["
